WRIGHTSTOWN METHODIST CEMETERY

New Hanover Township, Burlington Co., NJ

Orange Beads

This cemetery list has been graciously donated by Carol Holt.

The burying ground surrounding the Wrightstown Methodist Church is the
second oldest burying place in New Hanover Township. The earliest
interments, it is understood, are located under the present building, which
is used as a servicemen's recreation center. The building and the
surrounding cemetery are kept in good condition.

The earliest Methodist meeting house was located on the opposite side of
the road. Upon the need for additional room the building was moved and
enlarged on its present site. As one of the calls on the early Burlington
circuit, the area was a scene of Methodist activity from its beginnings in
the late 18th century when Wrightstown, now commonly known as Fort Dix, was
Pennytown. Many of its early pioneers now rest in the Methodist Cemetery.
The inscriptions were copied and checked by members of the Genealogical
Society in September, 1972 and were prepared for publication by Dorothy A.
Stratford.
